A week ago I had the pleasure of hanging out with the crew at MapBox. If it’s one thing that the both of us are passionate about, it’s open culture (and, of course, its intersection with cartography). Almost needless to say, OpenStreetMap, an entirely user-driven and open licensed digital road atlas, is one of the most exciting projects in that realm. As a shout-out to all the fantastic things the OpenStreetMap community have accomplished, especially them recently hitting the 1 million editor mark, we devised this infographic-y illustration-y celebration of all things OpenStreetMap (with special thanks to Saman Bemel Benrud for creative direction).
If you’re not familiar with OSM, consider this an introductory primer on why they’re so great. If you’re already a dyed-in-the-wool OSM contributor, consider this our small way of saying “thanks, and keep up the awesome work”!
